I am a Elementary Education and Sociology major. I picked Sociology as my co-major because it was the shortest, but as the time went on I became more interested in the classes. My favorite two Sociology classes that I took were Sociology of Media and Human Sexuality. Last semester, I was student teaching at PS 63Q. I had fourth grade. I absolutely loved it. I got along with my cooperating teacher very nicely. She became more than a mentor to me, she became my friend. I loved getting up in front of the class and teaching. Everyday was a new learning experience for me. I am currently student teaching at PS 184Q. I have second grade. I’m excited because I don’t have to worry about standardized tests. I chose teaching as a profession because I have a passion for children. I love teaching them and making a difference in their life.
I took my first education course in my sophomore year. One of my assignments required me to work with a child under the age of seven for 15 hours and document my work. I worked with a coworker’s five-year-old grandson who should have been in kindergarten at this time. When I met him for the first time, I was surprised to find out that he did not know the alphabet or how to count to ten. I decided to work with him beyond the time I needed to complete my assignment. Over a two-month period, Jay learned the alphabet, how to write, how to add and subtract numbers and could count to 100. I was so happy once he learned all of this. I knew I made a difference in his life. I still see him at my job and every time he sees me, he calls me “teach” and runs over to give me a big hug. I have never been more proud than I am of him.
My two favorite television shows are Bones and Law and Order SVU. I can watch reruns all the time. I like to read mystery books. Mystery books keep my interest. My favorite artist is Kelly Clarkson. I listen to her music when I’m stressed out. I like to bike ride and roller blade on my spare time. I love shopping.
