Hi, my name is Monley Wu. I transferred to Queens College about two years ago from Baruch College. Obviously, my major is elementary education. My co-major is psychology. This semester, I am student teaching at P.S. 184 in Whitestone. I will be with first graders. After being with them on the first day of school, I feel a bit nervous because fourth grade (the grade I taught last semester) and first grade is very different. The reason why I wanted to become a teacher was because of the afterschool tutoring school job I took in high school. Also, there was a student that I worked with because none of my coworkers wanted to help her. It took some time and patience but I got through to her and everyone saw the progress she made. I love the feeling I get when I help a student and they understand the work or when they learn something new. Also, I want to be happy with what I do and teaching children can do that for me.

My first experience I had working with children began in high school. I volunteered for YWCA’s afterschool program and had a job where I was the tutor/teacher’s assistant for 3rd and 4th graders. Ever since high school most of my job experiences were at summer camps. To name a few, I worked at Lana’s Gymnastics and CPC at P.S. 20. I also have a younger sister who was born in the year 2000. I feel that I also got experience when I had to take care of her or babysit her.

Ever since I started student teaching, I’ve been trying to catch up on my sleep whenever possible. Other than that I love to go shopping, bringing my dog to the park, and to watch movies. I love to watch The Vampire Diaries, Pretty Little Liars, Melissa & Joey and Criminal Minds. (Yes, I like the first two shows a lot.) I drink orange juice like it’s my coffee. I love Chinese and Italian food. I also love listening to songs.
