I am a college senior, and very excited to soon be graduating with a major in elementary education and American history. I’ve always loved learning about history since middle school. I always found it to be fascinating to learn about the past; such as the culture, events, and just plain facts about how events have shaped the world into what it is today. I am currently student teaching at P.S.193, located in Whitestone, Queens. I want to be a teacher for many reasons; firstly because I love the act of teaching others. I like to help others learn what I know, as well as learn from others. Secondly I want to be a role model for younger children. I feel like sometimes children are often lost in such huge complicated world, and they sometimes need encouragement, a push, or just a person that they can confide and look up to. I want to make a difference in the life of a child, and guide them as well as teach them what I know. The next reason is that children are the future, and I believe that education is very important. I think that by educating children you are helping them become better people. I believe education is the key to eliminate ignorance, promote diversity, equity, togetherness, peace, and success.

I have worked with kids from different ages throughout recent years. The first time I had the opportunity to work with children was at a girl’s brigade. I used to attend this club, and I loved it so much that I came back and volunteered to help out. There I helped out girls from 1-5 during activities which ranged from gym, to ceramics and arts and crafts, etc. . . . My second experience was working at a summer camp in Forrest Hills. I worked as an art assistant for grades K-6. I’ve always had a passion for art because it provides a creative outlet. That summer we built crafts with the children, did paintings, collages, banners and drawings. I really enjoyed that summer of teaching and creating art. My second opportunity was when I did my 100hours at my old elementary school (P.S. 11Q). I had the opportunity to work with integrated kindergarteners (half the children in the classroom services). I would help out around the classroom, read them stories, and often help them with subjects they struggled with. I loved them so much, and grew a bit attached that that I actually stayed longer to help out in the classroom. My most recent experience was last semester when I started my first semester of hands on student teaching. I had the opportunity to work with fourth graders, which was a different and meaningful experience.

When I used to have a life and the time. . . my favorite past time, and hobbies often include doing anything that is some type of creative outlet such as art and music. I really can’t play any type of instrument well (I used to be able to play the piano) and currently my boyfriend is trying to help me learn the guitar. I enjoy listening to music and attending live events. I used to be very into scrapbooking and photography. I loved creating pages and pages of fun artsy memories with the pictures. I also enjoy going to museums and art galleries. I love discovering new places in the city to hang out with my best friends, and boyfriend. My other passion is traveling- I love planning trips, going on adventures, visiting new places, and learning new cultures. I actually have a huge map of the world hanging up in my room with stars representing places I have travelled, and I hope to fill it up as much as I can throughout the years.
