Hi my name is Kristin Gromling. I have been attending Queens College since spring of 2009. Before that i went to a few other universities on swimming scholarships. My co- Major is History. If someone was to tell me a few years back that I was going to major in History I would of laughed. However, I started to find it very interesting because without history we would not be where we are today. I'm student teaching at PS 193 in Whitestone Queens and so far I’m enjoying it very much. I choose the teaching profession for a few reasons. I always loved children and have been working with kids for many years in different areas. I also choose his profession because I really feel like I could make a different in someone life. I remember when I was in school and I was not a very good student. I had trouble in reading and I was never confident. I want to teach because I want those children like me to know and understand that you don’t have to always get the answer right to achieve greatness.
My previous experience working with children is in many areas. I have been a nanny for 10 years. I started babysitting when I was 9years old which seems so far off but I was a very mature child. I have been with the same family for the past 11 years .They don’t need me as much anymore but we are more like family at this point. I still watch children for certain people. I also work for the American Red Cross and I do programs with children from all different areas. I do swim lessons programs as well as lifeguard programs.
I have been a swimmer for 17 years. I started when I was 6 years old. I really enjoyed swimming; I competed at high levels and travel to other countries to swim. I currently coach Uniondale Swim Team on Long Island. This is my hobby. I swam through college and yes I swam for Queens College. I had to take a year off because I had surgery on my shoulder because I swam butterfly. I came back and swam my last year at Queens and I’m not retired. I would like to go back in a few years and swim again and see where that leads me. However, I’m never far from a pool!
