Maria's bio
I came to this country from a far away European country almost 20 years ago. I tried and am still trying to learn English, and I don't know if ever I will be 100% in speaking the language of Edgar Allan Poe, Shakespeare and other beautiful American writers that delighted our childhood. I am more older than my classmates. I have two beautiful children. I am working as a paraprofessional in a public school here in New York, and I hope that in a some day I will be able to teach children in a real classroom. I am double major; education and psychology. The reason that I chose this wonderful profession is that I like to share from my background knowledge to others. I chose Elementary education and psychology because this two jobs go very well together in working with the human being, and especially with young children.
Paragraph 1 should include information about your co-major, where you are student teaching, and why you've chosen teaching as a profession.
Paragraph 2 should include information about previous experiences you have had with working with children (e.g. summer camps, daycare, tutoring, etc...)
Paragraph 3 can be about any special hobbies or pastimes that you have.

I've worked with children with special needs since Sophomore year of High school and have been hooked ever since. I currently run my own inclusion summer program called Academic Summer Enrichment and run an afterschool program for children with special needs at the Samuel Field Y. I hope to go on to my master's in ABA therapy and ultimately get my BCBA so that I may work together with children and teachers to affect individual children's lives. I have also had experience working as an assistant teacher at religious education programs, as a counselor at a pre-school aged summer camp, an assistant director, as a tutor and at various other programs hosted by the SFY.
Growing up I played piano, loved to oil paint and do other types of art and played basketball. I enjoy hanging out with my close friends and meeting new people. I recently became one of "those" dog people when I got my puppy Chloe whom I love dearly. My sister got married a year ago and cannot wait for the next chapters that will develop in my family life as well as what will come with the end of my undergraduate college career. Only time will tell :)
